Land Mermaid Party
Terms and Conditions

By booking a land party through The Mermaid School [hereby referred to as ‘us’, ‘we’, or ‘the company’] you [also referred to as ‘the booker’] contractually agree to the following terms:

Deposits and Payments :

  • Prior to confirming your booking, it is imperative to settle an agreed-upon deposit with the company.

  • Upon receipt of your deposit, a 24-hour grace period is granted. Subsequently, the deposit becomes non-refundable. In the event of cancellation, rescheduling is permissible at no additional cost within 6 months from the original booking date, subject to availability.

  • Following the dispatch of deposit particulars via email, your booking date will be reserved for 3 working days. After this period, the availability of the performer cannot be guaranteed.

  • Should 3 working days elapse since the booking email was issued, kindly contact us via email before remitting payment. This facilitates a check on the performer's availability and further guidance on payment.

  • The outstanding balance (total fee minus the deposit) is to be settled in cash to the Mermaid performer on the event day unless alternative arrangements have been agreed upon or the full amount was paid during booking.

  • If you intend to secure a booking less than a week before your event, the full payment will be required via bank transfer upon confirmation instead of the deposit or cash balance method outlined earlier.

Preparation:

  • It is essential to provide a secure facility, such as a locker or staff room, for the mermaid to store their personal belongings upon arrival.

  • A private area must be made available for the mermaid performer to change, if necessary.

  • To maintain the enchanting illusion of the mermaid character, they must don their tail out of sight from guests. Mermaids are unable to move freely once in their tails to prevent damage and potential injury. Therefore, the mermaid should either:

  • A. Put on their tail in the performance area before guests arrive.

  • OR

  • B. Be safely transported by a capable individual, wearing their tail, to the designated location.

  • If a designated individual is chosen to carry the mermaid, neither the mermaid nor the company can be held responsible for any resulting injuries, including but not limited to back injuries, sprains, or falls.

During Party:

  • Kindly consider that our mermaids have limited mobility due to their tails. Our party setups are structured to enable mermaids to lead activities while seated. Nonetheless, it is essential to stay attentive in case the mermaid requires assistance.

  • Your mermaid will likely have a water bottle with them and should be permitted to hydrate as needed.

  • Your mermaid is not accountable for the safety of other guests, attendees, children, or anyone at the venue. Both you and the venue bear full responsibility for the safety of all individuals associated with your party or event.

  • Mermaids are categorized as entertainers, not as guardians or babysitters. A minimum of two adults per ten children must be present throughout the event. These adults are responsible for:

  •  - Accompanying children to the restroom as needed

  •  - Ensuring the children's safety

  •  - Providing assistance to the mermaid when required

  •  - Attending to the children's needs

  •  - Enforcing behavioural guidelines (refer to our behaviour policy below)

  • Children under the age of 5 must have a designated parent or guardian present in the room at all times to provide assistance with games or other activities as needed.

After Party:

  • When the scheduled time expires, it is imperative to allow the mermaid to depart promptly since the designated period has concluded. To ensure a timely conclusion, the following measures are recommended:

  • A. Clearing the area of children/guests immediately after the mermaid's scheduled time has ended enables them to transition out of character and exit the event. This swift departure helps maintain the enchantment of the mermaid persona.

  • OR

  • B. In cases where the festivities extend beyond the mermaid's designated time, a suitable exit strategy should be implemented.

Behaviour Policy:

  • Our mermaids are experienced in interacting with children and managing diverse behaviours across various age groups. While they can address and redirect most undesirable conduct, there are specific behaviours that will not be condoned, including:

  • Any attempt to harm the mermaid performer (such as pulling hair or earrings, biting, hitting, spitting, throwing objects, or submerging the mermaid).

  • Damage to our tails and costumes (although gentle exploration is welcomed).

  • Destructive actions towards company equipment.

  • It is not mandatory for all children to believe in mermaids during our performances. However, we kindly request your cooperation in preserving the enchantment for those who do believe. Please address the Mermaid by their Mermaid name in front of children/guests and refrain from inquiring about the specifics of their costume or appearance.

  • In instances where children express disbelief, our mermaids have strategies to engage them. If attempts to foster belief are unsuccessful, a discreet request for assistance in pretending for the other children is usually effective. If a child's fixation on disbelief hampers the mermaids' ability to entertain, we ask for your intervention to redirect or engage the child appropriately.

  • Any harmful or aggressive actions towards the mermaid will not be tolerated. If a child displays aggression and standard redirection methods fail, the mermaid may break character to reinforce safety and attentiveness. If the behaviour persists without adult intervention, the mermaid may need to withdraw temporarily until the situation is resolved. This measure, while a last resort, aims to ensure a safe environment for all involved.

  • Mermaids may offer 'mermaid rides' as part of the entertainment, subject to each mermaid's discretion and not guaranteed for every party. Only one child may partake in a 'mermaid ride' at a time, and any attempt to overwhelm or bundle the mermaid during the event is unsafe. Activities may be halted if multiple children attempt to jump onto the mermaid simultaneously.

  • In cases of intentional harm to the mermaids or their costumes, clients may be held accountable for additional charges to cover damages and compensation after reasonable warnings are disregarded (e.g., pulling off fins, damaging flukes).

  • Our mermaids will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment from guests or clients.

  • Failure to adhere to our behaviour guidelines may result in the mermaids terminating the booking prematurely, with clients being liable for the full amount of the booking plus damages incurred.

The Mermaid look:

  • While our mermaid costumes are held to specific standards, each mermaid's individual "Mersona" – encompassing colour themes, costume selections, backstories, and personality traits – reflects a unique and personal artistic expression.

  • We aim to provide an image of your designated mermaid upon booking; however, please note that many of our mermaids have multiple tail and style options, and the actual costume worn on the day may vary from the provided picture.

  • Mermaid tops come in various styles, sizes, shapes, colours, and coverage levels, often resembling bikini tops or styled bras. Mermaids with different body types may naturally exhibit varying levels of cleavage. Should you desire increased coverage for any reason, such requests must be communicated at the time of booking or well in advance of the event to allow the mermaid to prepare accordingly. Complaints regarding cleavage or attire appropriateness without prior coverage requests will not be considered.

  • The Mermaid School upholds a strict non-discrimination policy concerning body types, ethnicities, religions, genders, and sexual orientations. Any form of client mistreatment or discrimination toward our mermaids or entertainers will result in immediate booking cancellation and potential legal action.
